Almost three years after the pandemic forced the world to work from home to reduce infections, companies around the world are returning their employees to face-to-face work. Such is the case of howard schultzCEO of Starbucks, who published a memo ordering his employees to physically report to the company’s offices at least three days a week.
The businessman remarked that COVID-19 was a “total attack on the ideas that make Starbucks, Starbucks. He broke the human connection. He made the world more difficult for many. And it threatened our ability to be a safe haven”, referring to the fact that many professionals used their cafeterias to get out of the office.
Schultz reflected that the brand’s frontline workers, such as coffee shop baristas, had to almost immediately return to their jobs around the world. In this way, in his opinion it is fair that corporate employees also return to the offices.
“Partners, it is time for us to return to the office, to do this mission critical work face to face and in person. It is time to rebuild and revive the energy of the SSC (Starbucks corporate) and our regional offices as prosperous and active centers,” says the CEO.
Howard Schultz will bet on hybrid work
Schultz reported that as of January 30, executives will have to physically report to work at the corporate at least three days each week: Tuesday, Thursday and another day chosen by each worker.
In the memo, the CEO remarks that this “is a change designed to preserve the flexibility and productivity that you have built through your work-at-home rituals and, at the same time, unite us in a synchronized way for the in-person work that it is vital to our future success.”
Howard Schultz is not the only CEO calling for a return to face-to-face work. Just a few days ago Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, indicated that the corporate team should be back in the offices at least 4 days a week.
