Sometimes the world of cinema transcends the limits of the big screen and acquires a deeper meaning, as it happens with “Sound of Freedom”. This film, which initially debuted in the United States on July 4, has made a significant impact due to its energetic message against child sex trafficking. Despite its powerful content, the path of this production has been marked by challenges and controversies. One of the crucial moments took place during his promotional campaign in Mexico, when the actor and producer Eduardo Verástegui got involved in an intense confrontation with a journalist.
The feature film has stood out not only for its independent release, but also for its ability to capture the attention of audiences globally. Its crucial message, centered on the fight against child sex trafficking, has resonated deeply and generated an urgent dialogue around this issue.
It will arrive in Mexico and other Latin American countries on August 31, 2023, after an odyssey in its trajectory.
Eduardo Verástegui, producer of the film, took on the task of guaranteeing its theatrical release after it was shelved by Disney following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the studio that had originally managed its distribution.
Despite its relevance, the tape and its creators have not escaped critical scrutiny, it has triggered tense situations.
THE DISCUSSION BETWEEN EDUARDO VERÁSTEGUI AND A JOURNALIST IN MEXICO
Eduardo Verástegui was involved in a confrontation with a journalist in Mexico during a press conference in Mexico City. The controversy arose when one of the reporters present, Eduardo Mitzu, questioned him about some of his alleged statements stating that homosexuality was linked to pedophilia. This question generated the annoyance of Verástegui.
The actor and producer refused to respond to his comments and implied that the communicator was trying to divert the conversation about child trafficking.
“I want to focus on saving children because anything other than that is distracting. You are not interested in children. You are not interested, you come here to ask something else because you want to discredit the message, anyone who comes looking to discredit the message, or you are part of the pedophilia industry, or you are ignorant or do not care about children”, he said forcefully.
The tension increased when the journalist again questioned the famous about one of the sponsors of his film, Fabian Marta, who had been arrested on July 23 on suspicion of kidnapping children.
In response, Verástegui accused the journalist of working for what he called the “Pinocchio Press”, suggesting that their goal was to defame and discredit his message. Verástegui declared: “You don’t want to save Mexican children, you are part of the problem, my brother, why don’t you inform yourself, don’t inform yourself.”
The dialogue between Verástegui and the journalist continued in a tense tone, with Verástegui accusing the journalist of lying and challenging the veracity of his statements.
“First, don’t be a liar, I can’t talk to liars, he didn’t invest in the movie, but in a ‘crowdfunding’ for the movie’s publicity, do your homework, brother, I can’t talk to liars. This man is not interested in children, this man comes to lie, surely you work in the pedophilia industry, this man must be investigated, a lying journalist; the press has to report truthfully”, he added.
