Some years ago it was very common to see that with each new high-end that was presented on the market, the RAM memory increased. This race to see who could put in the most RAM was interesting, however, with more advanced chips and better optimizations in Android, 8 GB of RAM seemed to be enough to do anything on our phone.
Of course, the situation did not stop, and now it is common to see certain computers with up to 16 GB of RAM. However, what some manufacturers of Chinese origin are doing with their latest launches is offering users with 6 or 8 GB of RAM the ability to expand it using storage memory space.
Xiaomi, OPPO and realme are some of the manufacturers that already allow to use part of the internal memory of the phone as RAM memory in case it is necessary. Currently not all models of these manufacturers are compatible with this feature, but little by little the list is increasing.
How is virtual RAM used?
All you have to do is activate this feature from the phone’s settings.
In Xiaomi phones this function is known as “virtual RAM”, but in Realme equipment it is called “RAM Expansion”.
The good news is that the process to activate it is similar on all computers with this feature.
To use the RAM expansion you must go to the settings and then to “RAM expansion”. Lastly, just select the amount of internal memory you would like to use as RAM. In the case of the realme GT Master Edition you can use from 2 GB to 5 GB, that is, reach a total of 11 GB of RAM.
For everything to work properly you must restart the phone after making changes in this section.
Using storage memory as RAM can help improve performance in some applications or multitasking. Remember that your phone will only take this memory space if it is available and if necessary, and it will return it as storage space when you stop using it as part of your RAM.
