This week Apple released macOS Monterey with a lot of new features, including 2 that will further strengthen the concept of ecosystem, such as share screen through Airplay and Universal Control, although the latter will come later.
Talking about share screen through Airplay, Apple makes it easier for a user to share audio, video, or share their screen between their devices, something that as surprising as it may seem was not possible between macOS and iOS or iPadOS.
What devices are supported for AirPlay screen sharing?
The main element is that your Mac has macOS Monterey and can also be used as a reception point via AirPlay, the compatible devices are the following:
- MacBook Pro or Air from 2018 onwards.
- iMac from 2019 onwards.
- iMac Pro from 2017 onwards
- Mac Pro from 2019 onwards.
- 2020 Mac mini
To make sure that the AirPlay receiver is configured, it will only be necessary to go to System Preferences> Share> AirPlay Receiver> activate it.
Last but not least, you can configure 3 different options for the use of the AirPlay receiver, so you can allow only devices with your Apple ID to connect, or you can choose any device connected to the same Wi-Fi network, or any compatible device.
Either way, you can set a password with every connection to prevent strangers from sending their screen to your Mac.
How to connect?
Once the receiver is configured Airplay You just have to take your iPhone or iPad, open the Control Center, select the option to mirror the screen and finally, choose our Mac.
If you want to share audio or video through YouTube or another application just press the AirPlay icon that appears in the playback notification and select your Mac.
