It is time to think about the planet and how to give it a “rest” in our daily activity, especially when it gets dark and resort to electricity. In a global context marked by increasing global warming and the increasing frequency of natural disasters, the importance of environmental preservation becomes even more urgent. Every small action plays a significant role in this vital cause.
According to a study carried out by the World Meteorological Organization, the next five years are shaping up to be the warmest ever recorded in history due to the increase in greenhouse gases and the influence of the El Niño phenomenon. Despite this forecast, in our daily lives there are numerous opportunities to reduce electricity consumption and promote more efficient use of resources in our homes.
Save energy at home
LG Peru experts shared the following tips on how to optimize energy use:
Use LED spotlights: These bulbs consume up to 80% less energy and last 7.5 times longer than traditional ones. This not only reduces your electricity bill, but also avoids the need to replace them frequently. Additionally, try to use natural light for as long as possible, keeping curtains and windows open.
Invest in efficient appliances: The first step is to check your energy rating. They all have a classification from A to G. The first three (AC) have better energy efficiency, D and E have medium consumption, and those classified with F and G have high energy consumption. The latter, in addition to generating a higher monthly bill at home, have a high environmental impact. The second step is to review the technology they have: the inverter, for example, allows you to save up to 36%; or, artificial intelligence optimizes processes and learns usage habits to avoid unnecessary expenses.
Wash with cold water: This action, in addition to saving more than 40% on the monthly home payment, reduces pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases. On average, 85 liters of water are used daily when washing dishes; a 5-minute shower consumes 90 liters; and a wash cycle approximately 50 liters. In these three daily practices, the user can avoid the use of cold water to a large extent, reducing the carbon footprint associated with electricity generation and contributing to the fight against climate change.
Disconnect devices you do not use: Many devices continue to consume power even if they are not in use. Unplugging them or using power strips with switches can help avoid that expense. Some equipment, such as desktop computers or televisions, can be left in standby mode, so if they are not used, it is best to disconnect or turn them off. Likewise, turning off the lights when leaving a room is an easy way to save energy.
