Previously, Facebook being the owner of Instagram had enabled a rather curious option, which tried to synchronize Facebook contacts with those of Instagram, in order to be able to write through private messages from Facebook to Instagram or vice versa.
And although the option was very useful for some users, unfortunately there were a lot of people who did not see any use for it. Or rather they prefer to keep the chats separate, at the same time as the contacts.
If you are one of those users who enabled the option and now you don’t like the function at all, don’t worry. In this article we show you how to prevent Facebook users from sending you messages on Instagram in simple steps. Follow us!

So you can disable the option and prevent Facebook users from sending you messages on Instagram
We know that platforms every day seek to innovate and make life easier for users, however, this new feature for many has been a headache. Fortunately, reverting the changes is quite simple and although there is no valid option to go back to the previous version, this is what you must do to have your Instagram separate from Facebook.
- Launch the Instagram app, either on Android or iOS devices.
- Tap on the profile icon located at the bottom right of the app.
- Locate the hamburger menu in the upper right corner and click on it, then touch the “Settings” option.
- It will show different options, enter “Privacy”.
- After this locate the option “Messages”.
In this section known as “Message controls” you will have different options to choose from, each of them has a different role, but they maintain the same objective “to avoid receiving messages from Facebook contacts”. The options that you will have available are:
- Your followers on Instagram.
- Facebook friends or people you chatted with on Messenger.
- Friends of friends on Facebook.
- People who have my number.
- Other people on Facebook.
- Other people on Instagram.
If your goal is to avoid receiving messages from Facebook contacts at all costs, you should choose the option “Do not receive requests”, for greater effectiveness make this adjustment in the options where Facebook is involved, which are: “Facebook friends or people you chatted with on Messenger”, “Friends of friends on Facebook” and “Other people on Facebook”
