Here’s how to set Windows to always display file extensions.
When working with different files in Windows, you have probably noticed that, from the file explorer, the extensions of the files are not shown. This happens by default with those types of files that you have worked with before, since Windows usually considers them safe enough to only show their name.
However, if you wish you can change the operating system settings so that file extensions are always displayed. In addition, this is something that many security and antivirus companies usually recommend, in order to avoid possible scams on the computer by not knowing the extension of the file to run.
So you can make file extensions show in Windows
As we mentioned, there is the possibility of making Windows always show the file extensions, something highly recommended especially for security issues.
To do this, you must first open file explorer on your computer. Once inside, at the top, Choose View inside the ribbon and when it appears, click on the dropdown titled Options that will appear on the right side, to finally to select Change folder and search options.
Once pressed, you will be able to see how a small window opens on your PC, with a multitude of options for the elements displayed in the Windows file explorer. In the tabs at the top of it, you should to select See and then inside the whole list of options, you will have to find and unmark Hide file extensions for known file types.
Once this is done, all you have to do is click on the button Accept to save the corresponding changes. Later, if you return to the Windows file explorer, you will be able to see how at the end of each document or file its corresponding extension will have appeared, such as .png, .jpg, .pdf, .Doc or .exe, among many others.
