One of the most important processes within your company is to evaluate the work that has been carried out for a certain time by all those people who make it up.
As a leader, a fundamental part is to recognize the work of your collaborators and identify the areas of opportunity to work on inside and outside the company. However, giving feedback is not an activity that should be done only by the head of the team, but together.
Why is it important to give effective feedback?
Providing good feedback helps your collaborators to be aware of their actions and account for the positive or negative impact of them, in order to reinforce that they continue doing them or find a way to change them.
Similarly, you increase the productivity of your work team, commitment and, as a leader, you help them develop their skills.
Achieve effective feedback in 3 steps:
Take into account that the way in which the feedback is given will contribute to the learning process of the listener; therefore, rely on this structure:
1. First what worked
Sometimes we take victories for granted and neglect what the process was like to get there. Take note of what you and your team had to do to achieve the stated objectives, because in future projects, these strategies can be part of your action plan.
Remember that an important part of inspiring, motivating and persuading your collaborators is to recognize their work and encourage them to continue along the same lines.
2. Continue with what failed.
It is important to give yourself the necessary time to evaluate and reflect on the actions that did not turn out as expected, in order to avoid them.
According to experts, this second step becomes easier when positive things have already been discussed, since a neurological balance is struck that allows for greater openness and deepening of the subject.
Therefore, it is important to create a safe space where each member of the team feels confident to express their point of view.
3. End with what can be done differently.
Once the previous points have been reviewed, it is time to generate new approaches. As a first option, review with your work team what things were intended to be done and were not carried out so that, in other projects, they are visualized as being carried out successfully.
And finally, brainstorm what can be added or done differently. This activates the creative and critical thinking part of the brain, increasing the effectiveness of the processes.
Use these 3 steps to provide effective feedback at your next work meeting or even apply it to your personal or social relationships to create a new work guide and thus elevate your personal image.
