Microsoft has had some problems in its latest Windows update. This time it is a bug in Outlook that affects the email search section. This latest update -which was released last December- corresponds to patch KB5008212, so you can check if your operating system is up to date. But don’t worry if that’s the case, because today we’ll tell you How to fix Outlook search issues when upgrading Windows.
Note that this bug affects Windows 10 users like Windows 11, nor does there exist -until now- an update that solves the bug. However, Microsoft has announced a series of steps to be taken to fix this annoying Outlook email search error. If you work more with Outlook than Gmail, here’s how to transfer your contacts from Gmail to Outlook.
Fix Outlook search crash when upgrading Windows
Among the most common failures that users reported are the not finding emails stored in Outlook, nor being able to see the newest emails. All this after having installed the latest Windows update corresponding to patch KB5008212.
From now on we tell you that, sometimes, companies take a while to find and solve the errors that their operating systems may have. and although Microsoft is already aware of the KB5008212 patch bug, it is better to take the solution that we will propose to you than to have to wait a few more weeks until the new Windows update is available.
East interim fix is officially announced and approved by Microsoft so do not have doubts when putting into practice the steps to follow. So, taking all this into account, you will have to do the following:
- Press the button “Beginning” on Windows.
- Go to the search engine and type “Run”.
- Writes “regedit” (the registry editor will open).
- Write the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows.
If the registry editor found the path, you’ll know you’re doing things right. However, there are still a few steps to follow:
- Click on “Edit”, later “New” and finally “Key code”.
- Select the new windows search key.
- press on “Edit”, later “New” and finally “DWORD value”.
- Put the following text: “PreventIndexingOutlook” and then click on “Modify”.
Once you have done this, the “Value information” box will appear, here you must write the value 1 in order to enable the registry entry you are placing. Finally, press the “OK” button to finish the modification.
I have finished all the steps, exit “Registry Editor” and restart the mail app (Outlook). As you can see, while you do have to write a few things, it’s not like the steps are difficult either. From Urban Tecno we assure you that if you follow these steps you will be able to solve the Outlook error and find those emails that you need. Now, if you’re tired of managing your emails through Outlook, here’s how to delete a Hotmail or Outlook account in just a few steps.
