The announcement of the new feature came a long time ago, but it has not been until now that it has spread enough that many of us already have it available: we can download content from Spotify to our Apple Watch, in order to listen to them without having to have the iPhone with us. Getting those downloads is simple, so let’s see how it works step by step.
A new ideal option for athletes or those who want to disconnect
First, the ingredients we will need: One account premium by Spotify (free accounts are not worth it), an iPhone and an Apple Watch with available storage space. We will need to have Spotify installed on both devices.
If you have all this, you can now go on to download your favorite songs and podcasts on the Apple watch. Search for any podcast, music album, or playlist you want to download; and click on the button with the ellipsis to locate the option ‘Download on Apple Watch’:
As soon as you press that option, the contents that you have opened will begin to download to the Apple Watch automatically. You can see the progress in the ‘Downloads’ section of the clock application, just as the interface recommends you to do it:
From now on, even if you move away from the iPhone to go out to do sports or simply to disconnect for a moment while taking a walk or running some errands, you will be able to listen to what you have downloaded offline and without the need to carry the iPhone in your pocket.
If by any chance you need free space on the Apple Watch, you can delete the download directly from the iPhone, again in the same menu with the ellipsis:
Keep in mind that being able to download content or not it will depend on whether or not you have free space on your Apple Watch. If the download option still does not appear, you will have to have a little more patience until the news reaches your devices. Of course, to be able to listen to music directly from the Apple Watch, you will need a Bluetooth headset.
