Steps to create multilevel numbered or mixed lists
To begin, we open the Adobe InDesign program and place the text on which we will work on the screen. The first step to start creating our lists is to go to the text option located in the top bar of our screen and click.
Then we go down until we find the option Numbered and bulleted lists and then we mark on «Define lists». A box will open and we will select “New” and name our list.
We click Ok and Ok again. Now we open the Paragraph Format Controls option. We move the cursor to the option “Numbered list” and holding down the Alt + click keys to open the options, now we select the type of list by number.
Where it says “List” we select the list that we created previously, and we click on Ok, the first list will automatically be created.
How to create second-level numbered lists with Adobe InDesign?
To create the next level of list, with the mouse we must select the paragraph which we want to place in that list.
We go back to the Numbered List option and press the Alt key + click, the bullet and numbering box will open again. We select the type of list by number, in the second option we choose the list that we created at the beginning.
In the right part of the box where it says Level, we place the number 2. In the menu of Bullet position or number, we can change the alignment or indentations to our liking, then we click on Ok.
To create a third level we do exactly the same. First, we select the text, which we want to place in this list level and we go to the Numbered list option. We open it with an Alt + click, in the first option, we place type of list by number.
In the second option, we select the name of the list that we created at the beginning, but now we will place Level 3. In the option that says Numbering style we can change the number of the lists and the tab, click on Ok so that our list level is saved.
If we want to create another level we must follow the same steps, select the text then open the Numbered List and place the same data, we only now change the level to 4. We configure the styles and the numbering position and click Ok.
We can create up to a maximum of 9 levels, once we have created them all. The last thing left is to select the paragraph style for each of the lists, with the Paragraph Styles option located on the right.
