Right now you will be full of questions, because you do not know what it is or what you want that for on your smartwatch. The truth is that Apple has worked on this function in several WatchOS 8 betas, but it is already a consolidated idea that is available in all Apple Watch in the world.
What is this WatchOS feature?
It is a purely decorative option, so it is not an improvement to the operating system. Nevertheless, yes it is interesting to personalize your watch, thus giving a new format to your best photos in the gallery. And that new format is to place them as the sphere of the Apple Watch. This Portraits watch face uses portrait segmentation data taken with the iPhone to create an immersive multi-level sphere.
Not only does it accommodate a single photo, but the Portraits sphere allows to include up to 24 units, so that they rotate randomly. Here comes the possibility of choosing both complete images and selfies that you have in the gallery, but essentially supports Portrait mode style how long it has been implemented in the iPhone camera.
With portrait photos, the image is adapted to appear in the sphere only on the subjects that are there, that is, the people in the photo. In addition, the system highlights the subject against the background to give it a touch of depth. It does not have to be a photo of you, but you can choose one with your friends, family, partner, etc.
How to create a Portraits watch face on Apple Watch
Before learning how to create a Portraits sphere there are several requirements that you must complete. This function, for compatibility reasons, It is only available on watches that have the WatchOS 8 version, As minimum. Except for Series 3, all models starting with Apple Watch Series 4 can enjoy this functionality. That is, the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6, onwards.
On the other hand, we have already told you that they can only be photos with Portrait mode. With so many images that you have in the gallery, it is unlikely that you will remember if a photo is taken with that mode or not. To check, go to app Photos and choose the image that you like the most for the Apple Watch face. Then, click on the “Albums“and scroll down the screen until you find the folder”Portrait“.
If you don’t like any of them, you can always open your iPhone’s camera and choose Portrait mode to quickly snap one up. Now that you have your photo (or photos) to choose from, you just need to add it to your Apple Watch.
To do this, first open the iPhone Watch app. In the next step, look for the “Gallery“, located in the bottom bar of the application. Once there, scroll down the screen until you find the option”Pictures“. If you look at”Content“an option appears that says”Choose photos …“which you can access.
In that menu you have the possibility of choose from one to 24 photos to include them in the Portraits watch face on Apple Watch. Select the ones you want to go to the next step. And it is that the thing does not end there, since these portraits can be customized so that they look in the sphere in one way or another.
In the areas “Style” and “Complications“You can give them the format you want. In the first one, you have 3 options to adjust the photos in the sphere: Classic, Modern and Rounded. Meanwhile, in the second you can customize the rest of the elements on the screen, such as display the weather or adjust the time position. Unfortunately, there is nothing else to configure. Once finished, those photos will be automatically added to the watch face.
