Microsoft has modified the design of the Windows 10 start menu downplaying the Live Tiles concept present, in one way or another, since Windows 8. The result, thanks to other minor changes as well, is a visually simpler start menu. This also helps to find the applications installed on the device more easily.
The new start menu, however, is not available to all users. Currently, only some of the testers of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20161 version, available in the development channel, can use it. Luckily, a utility called ViveTool allows you to activate the new Windows 10 start menu manually.
The steps to follow are simple. The first one is to download the ViveTool tool, available in this GitHub repository, and unzip the file. Once done, it is necessary to open the Windows command terminal as administrator and navigate to the folder where the downloaded file is located. By default, the file will be in the downloads folder, so the command to enter is the following: CD C: \ Users \ User \ Downloads \ ViveTool-v0.2.0
Once finished, you need to enter the following command: ViVeTool.exe add config 23615618 2. When finished, just restart your computer to activate the new Windows 10 start menu.
For this to work, it is essential to have the latest version of Windows Insider Preview. Otherwise, the previously described system will not work correctly and therefore you will not be able to activate the new Windows 10 start menu.
To obtain the beta version of Windows 10, it is necessary to register in the Windows Insider program, follow all the steps indicated on the Microsoft website and update the machine with the software version indicated above. This version, as its name suggests, is not the commercial variant that reaches all machines. Therefore, install it only if you have the necessary knowledge about the risks that it entails.
