Discover why it is not recommended to self-medicate your baby with infusions or teas.
One of the most common home methods to alleviate discomforts are infusions or teas. And there is for all kinds of problems: flu, stomach pain, constipation, lack of sleep and more.
We take tea as an option to improve our health because many are natural and very effective. However, they are not always recommended, especially for young children.
Babies are much more sensitive than adults to the substances contained in teas, so much so that a poorly measured dose of infusions could lead to poisoning. Also, reactions from various herbs could make a baby drowsy, seizure, and even coma.
Also, many of the infusions or teas contain tannins, antinutritive substances that prevent the absorption of nutrients such as iron. If you give your baby a tea with tannins, and you don’t give him the correct dose or he just doesn’t need it, you could cause him early anemia.
Some dangerous baby teas are anise, star anise, boldo, eucalyptus, fennel, chamomile, and green tea.
Remember that when your baby has discomfort, it is best to consult your pediatrician.
