The hot season has arrived, and with it another risk for our healththe dehydrationn, it is common for us to find ourselves at times during the day when we are more thirsty than usual, but have you ever wondered, how much water should I drink a day?
Despite what is commonly believed, there is a parameter that must be met according to the age range, for example, according to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) the age scale in relation to the liters to be consumed are detailed below:
- From 0 to 6 months 100-190 milliliters (breast milk)
- 6 months to 12 months 0.9 to 1 liter per day
- 1 year to 2 years 1.1 to 1.2 liters per day
- 2 to 3 years 1.3 liters daily
- 4 to 8 years 1.6 liters
- 9 to 13 years old, 2.1 liters for men and 1.9 for women
- Over 14 years old; men 2.5 liters a day and women 2 liters a day
While there is no golden rule that must be followed to consume the liquidit is important to meet the basic consumption of almost two liters in people over 14 years of age and verify that minors drink water abundantly in this hot season.
According to the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, the amount of water intake should amount to 2.7 liters and 3.7 liters for men. This includes the water contained in food and other drinks such as coffee or tea.
For the Aquae Foundation there is a rule of 8 glasses of waterwhich consists in the fact that each glass of water drunk during the day must have a measure of 240 milliliters, so that the goal of 2 or 3 liters per day can be reached.
As for the periods to consume water, there is no rule, it is best to drink 2 glasses when you get up, 1 and a half glasses before meals, 1 glass before bathing, 2 glasses in the afternoon, 1 glass after sports and 1 glass before going to bed.

The IMSS also detailed that there are factors that can help us prevent heat stroke at this time of year, and in order to avoid them it is better to know the symptoms of these:
- Dizziness
- Excessive sweating at first, then no sweating at all
- Redness and dryness of the skin
- Fever with temperature from 39 to 41°C
