What is the Humanitarian Parole?
This is a temporary residence permit granted for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. This permit allows you to enter the United States without problems. It was created as a measure to address the border crisis caused by the high demand for illegal crossings. In this sense, 30,000 monthly permits are allocated to citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti.
How to apply for humanitarian parole in the USA?
Those interested in requesting the Humanitarian Parole must meet a series of requirements, which are detailed below:
- Be a citizen of Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela or Haiti.
- Being outside of the United States.
- Possess a valid and current passport to travel internationally.
- Have a sponsor who has legal status in the United States and can demonstrate the ability to provide financial support and any other type of assistance necessary to the parole applicant.
- Being able to cover the cost of airfare to the United States.
- Comply with vaccination requirements and other public health regulations established by the US government.
People who:
- Possess permanent residence or refugee status in any other country, or have dual nationality.
- Have received a deportation order from the United States in the last five years, nor be subject to an admission bar based on a previous deportation order.
- Having irregularly crossed the borders of the United States, Mexico or Panama after January 5, 2023.
Requirements for Humanitarian Parole in the USA
As indicated by the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), to start the process, the applicant must have a valid passport and have a sponsor in the United States willing to request their participation in the Humanitarian Parole.
In addition, the sponsor must demonstrate availability of financial resources to support the stay for a period of two years. USCIS has announced the opening of an online process so that immigrants who entered the country and obtained a temporary stay permit (known as “parolees”) can request their work permit through Form I-765.
How long does the Humanitarian Parole last?
In general, the duration of the temporary residence permit does not exceed one year. USCIS will determine the period necessary to fulfill the purpose of the parole, as specified in section 3 of Form I-131.
The parole period can end at two different times, and this will depend on the event that occurs first between the following two cases:
- Date on which the term of the permit expires.
- The beneficiary leaves the US
