The House of Ideas will not remain with its hands crossed. After the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) formally went on strike on Friday, production on a variety of projects has been affected, and not just at Marvel Studios. However, the company chaired by Kevin Feige knows perfectly well that the machinery should not stop, so even if the cameras are not rolling, the construction of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will continue to be active. At least, as far as the strike restrictions allow it.
In an email signed by Feige and co-chairman Louis D’Esposito, Marvel Studios expressed appreciation for the work of its staff and admitted that the meticulous plans for the future of the MCU would not be the same from now on, with two strike movements (actors and scriptwriters) paralyzing Hollywood. However, in the eyes of the company, you have to adapt and “make the best of the situation.”
“We recognize how much everyone has done in their respective projects,” the letter reads (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It’s disappointing when carefully laid plans have to change, but constant change is the nature of the production business.”
Hours after the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, it was confirmed that the filming of Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, had been temporarily suspended. Weeks before, due to the writers’ strike, the pre-production of the films was also halted Blade and thunderboltsas well as the television series Daredevil: Born Again.
“Our teams are no strangers to unexpected challenges and rising to meet them,” adds the email sent by the Marvel Studios board. “We deeply appreciate all of your efforts to make the best of the situation, and we can all hope that a new deal will be finalized soon so that we can resume the great work we have in the works.”
For now, the most significant advances that the House of Ideas can make are in terms of post-production. Projects that are currently in that stage are the films The Marvels and Captain America: Brave New Worldand the tv shows Loki (season 2), Threw out, ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Now, another great hardship for Marvel Studios could be the promotion of its upcoming releases. The SAG-AFTRA strike requires its members not to be part of junkets, press tours, conventions, screenings, or any type of event that —in this case— serves as an advertising strategy. Therefore, if the protests extend until autumn 2023, The Marvels (scheduled for November 10) would be left without the support of the cast headed by Brie Larson; the same would happen with Tom Hiddleston and the second season of Loki (October 6) and with Alaqua Cox and the series Threw out (November 29th).
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
