At the beginning of 2022, the actress Evangeline Lilly was canceled on social networks for revealing her anti-vaccine positions in the midst of the pandemic. Rumors began shortly after that Marvel Studios or Disney might end her collaboration with her. However, a year later we can see it in movie theaters with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand the actress stated that her position was never in jeopardy within the MCU.
The actress held a chat with the magazine esquire about his work in the new film by ant man. There he revealed that she knew exactly what would happen if he showed his support against the vaccine. But even now he justifies that he never tried to hurt anyone, but rather to support all those people who might feel pressured in some way.
“I know what I’m doing. I know I have a little pebble and there’s this fucking giant Goliath. If I throw this stone, it’s going to wake up the giant. I asked myself about six hundred times if I should post,” said the actress. “I just wanted people who were struggling because they were under great pressure to do something they didn’t want to do to know that they weren’t alone, to know that there were people who really felt they had a right to say no.”
The controversy began when the actress published a support publication for a group focused on “body sovereignty” through her social networks. In her post, she indicated that she had always been a pro-choice person even before the Covid existed, so she found no reason to stop being so at such a point in the pandemic and with the virus in existence.
“I believe that no one should ever be forced to inject anything into their body, against their will,” the actress said at the time. Lilly believed that this was not the way to show love and security to others, and that everyone had the right to choose the best path to protect themselves during the health crisis.
Despite the fact that many users on social networks criticized her fiercely, her employment within Marvel Studios was never in danger. She even commented on the podcast Happy Sad and Confused that the response from all his colleagues was quite kind and respectful.
“They were very respectful,” Lilly said. “In fact, I’ve had direct conversations with them that I’ve facilitated and they’ve always said, ‘That’s none of our business. It is not for us to tell you how to live your life or what opinions to have.’ And in fact, I even received a very supportive phone call from [el director de Ant-Man] Peyton Reed at one point and he said to me, ‘Just so you know, there are some rumors about Marvel leaving you or canceling you. And that didn’t come from Marvel and that didn’t come from us, so just ignore it.’”
Evangeline Lilly still plays her role as Hope Van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film is the official start of the fifth Marvel phase and presents all the potential that the saga will have in the coming crossovers. You can read our review here.
