In this new series, HBO invested 200 million dollars to produce it.
The first episode had twice as many viewing households as the first episode of season 4 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”
“The Heirs of the Dragon”, was seen in 2.59 million homes in the United States alone.
The entertainment industry is one of the most millionaire in the world, since it registers many projects, so it is easy for people to talk about them. This is the case of the fans of ‘House of the Dragon’, who after the premiere of the second chapter of the HBO series were outraged by the opening credits of the spin offfor resembling those of “Game of Thrones”.
With an increasingly digitized world, it is normal that streaming platforms are the ones that are recording more and more profits from projects. Streaming video services have taken over the entertainment market in Latin Americaso it is estimated that in 2024, for the first time in history, the number of subscribers to streaming video services will exceed 110 million.
In this sense, these platforms register important series and movies, such as HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, according to data from ElPaísin the United States, the premiere of the last season of the medieval fantasy drama surpassed the figures of previous years, being seen live by about 17.5 million people.
Given these data, in August 2022 the prequel to the successful “Game of Thrones”, “House of the Dragon”, was released, and according to HBO data, broke audience records and has become the most watched series of the year, in the entire ecosystem of premium pay TV media and streaming services, such as Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Let’s remember that the series debuted on August 21 on HBO and the HBO Max streaming service and, although the initial metrics were promising, few anticipated the explosion of ratings. Only in the United States, the premiere chapter of the series, “The Heirs of the Dragon”, was seen in 2.59 million homes only during the first six hours since it was available.
The number is not only overwhelming for HBO, but it is also when compared to other successful productions on platforms such as Netflix. Since the nearly 2.6 million households is more than twice the the numbers obtained by “Stranger Things” Season 4, which got 1.2 million connected homes in the United States in the first day.
‘House of the Dragon’ fans outraged by opening credits
Although it is one of the series that promises to be the new historical success of HBO, this Sunday, August 28, its new chapter premiered, and this time the initial credits came out, which was not seen in the first episode.
But although many fans asked for them after the first episode, in this new installment many viewers were outraged when the credits came out in this new chapter and they realized that it is the same as the GoT one.
The credits for “House of the Dragon,” which follows the Targaryen family some 200 years before the events of “GoT,” use the exact same song that was used for the first series’ credits. The image while the song is playing is a depiction of blood spilling through a model of Old Valyria.
Complaints were seen on social media, with fans noting that “wait… Are we going to reuse the GoT theme for the HoTD opening credits?”

“HOTD opening credits did nothing for me…images were unreadable…and should have used at least one variation of the THRONES theme song…???” another reads.
A lot of people asking where the new opening credits theme song from #HouseoftheDragon came from, the track is called “Life Is a Highway” by Tom Cochrane

“Many people ask where the new #HouseoftheDragon opening credits theme came from, the song is called ‘Life Is a Highway’ by Tom Cochrane,” complained another fan, mocking the fact that they are reusing the same song.
“A spin-off show cannot simply use the theme song of the show it was spun off from. Where would we be as a society if ‘Frasier’ simply reused the theme from ‘Cheers?’” another comment reads.
Although they received negative feedback from the credits, other fans defended the performances.
“THIS MADE ME SO NOSTALGIC!” says another netizen.
It’s official. Habemus intro of the first season of House Of The Dragon. Impossible to change the theme composed by Ramin Djawadi, a classic from the Game Of Thrones universe.#HouseoftheDragon #HOTDpic.twitter.com/s97ZnEkUFY

The second episode of the show, which has already been renewed for a second season, broke viewer records again if not, it was also trending on Twitter and generated 2 million searches on Google.
In conclusion, these types of projects demonstrate the importance that an industry such as entertainment can have in people’s lives and for the economy.
