Last week it premiered Elden Ring from FromSoftware and has had an extremely positive reception, to the point of becoming the highest rated game of all time on OpenCritic. However, some Horizon Forbidden West devs seem unhappy and Elden Ring fans teased sharing edited images of Elden Ring, showing what it would look like if it had been done by another studio.
“The fact that Elden Ring has a metacritic rating of 97 is proof that reviewers don’t give a hot shit about the Gameplay. My life is a lie”, says one of the annoying developers, who supposedly works for Ubisoft. “Neither do PC graphics, stability and performance, apparently”, replied another. However, the players paid special attention to a third party who said “Not even quest design, actually.”, because it is a Horizon Forbidden West developer.

Just like I said in my Elden Ring review, this game is everything we could hope for from FromSoftware’s open world, and not just because of its brutal difficulty. The history of FromSoftware games has always been enigmatic and told in a non-traditional way, so those used to other open world games will find something very different in Elden Ring. For starters, Elden Ring doesn’t have a quest log or markers on the map telling you exactly where to go. Despite this, the gameplay and exploration feel that the game offers is of the highest quality, earning it high marks.
The Elden Ring players decided to make fun of the developers who complained and showed what FromSoftware’s new game would look like if it had been made by another studio. “I found it, Elden Ring with a good interface”, said a player while sharing an edited image of Elden Ring. In this image, we can see a mini map in the upper right corner, a minecraft-like object selector in the lower part, a log of active missions, an “enemies detected” warning and a “message of the day”, which recommends the player to buy Game of Thrones themed DLC.

That’s not all, because the image also presents a dialogue from the Tarnished or Sooty (who does not speak in Elden Ring), saying “maybe I should investigate that cave”, telling the player exactly what to do. As if this were not enough, we can see an invitation to press the X button to “activate the sooty sense”, hinting at the detective-like modes of Batman Arkham Asylum that we have seen replicated in so many games, and make interactable objects or clues visible.
It is clear that yes Elden Ring If it had all these indicators, it would be more similar to open world games from Ubisoft and other companies that follow a set formula, but it would not be a true gaming experience. FromSoftware and you would miss out on that great sense of exploration and discovery.
