The Japanese firm has confirmed the launch of a new, more powerful and sporty version of the Honda / Acura NSX, which will be manufactured in strict limited edition as a swan song of the hybrid model, before the end of its production in 2022.
At the moment the details are scarce and the messages of the brand are somewhat ambiguous, but more than enough to confirm that the Honda NSX will have a more powerful Type S version before being retired in 2022 and everything indicates that this limited edition will be the last one available in the few markets where the hybrid sports car is still marketed.
For now we only have some dark images (which we have lightened slightly to reveal more details) and the company’s confirmation that this version will be more powerful and sporty. Although we do not know what kind of news it will bring on a technical level, we can assume that it will have slight changes in its frame configuration and a slight increase in power.
The current Honda NSX has a hybrid scheme based on a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine associated with 3 electric motors that delivers a combined total power of 550 hp and 645 Nm of maximum torque. So Honda has it relatively simple to increase the performance of the model, since not only can it act on any of these propellants, but it can also modify their response or how they interact with each other. At the rack level we can expect that the 5-twin-spoke wheels featured in these first teasers are lighter and that they are shod with high-performance tires, a somewhat firmer suspension scheme and a somewhat sportier aesthetic with slight touches on the exterior and a cabin with a certain racing flavor, as is usual in the Type S versions of Acura.
Limited edition
This model is going to be manufactured in strict limited edition, as the company has already confirmed that it will have a production of only 350 units and 300 of them are destined for the North American market, where the model is marketed under the Acura emblems. This is probably the reason why the brand has decided to create a Type S version, as these are the sportiest versions marketed by the Japanese brand in North America.
This version will be the swan song of the Honda NSX before its departure, although everything indicates that it will also be the latest version available, before its production ends in 2022. As several American media point out, this is the only version that appears on the Acura website on that side of the Atlantic, although it has not yet been officially presented.
