Official holidays (bridge days) in Mexico 2023
- Sunday January 1: New Year’s Day.
- Monday February 6: Day of the Mexican Constitution.
- Monday March 20: birthday of Benito Juárez.
- Monday May 1: International Workers’ Day.
- Saturday September 16: Mexican Independence Day.
- Monday November 20: anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
- Monday December 25: Christmas day.
What are the September bridges according to the SEP?
The classes of the 2023-2024 cycle of the SEP began on August 28. Although September is the national month, this year the holiday, September 16, falls on a Saturday. Therefore, in the official calendar the 15th and 16th are marked as days of reflection for these commemorative dates of the Independence of Mexico.
In September, the only bridge for SEP basic education students is the one that begins on September 29, so that students return to classes on October 2. This bridge is due to the fact that September 29 is a technical council day for teachers.
When will the bridges of the 2023 – 2024 school year be?
According to the SEP calendar published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 26, and despite the fact that there will be no rest for the first two months, in November everything will change and the official holidays will begin:
- Thursday, November 2
- Monday, November 20
What happens if you are asked to work on a holiday?
According to the Federal Labor Law of Mexico, “workers are not required to provide services on their days off.” However, if an employee works on a holiday, he must be paid a double salary for the service provided, according to what article 73 of the legislation says.
