The tropical storm hilarywhich since Sunday afternoon has been grounded in Baja California, north of Mexico, stays on land causing heavy rainsand began to enter California, United States, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
In its most recent notice, the SMN reported that until 6:00 p.m. Central Mexico time (12:00 a.m. Monday) Hilary was still on land, some 115 kilometers north-northwest of Tijuana, Baja California, and 40 kilometers south-southwest of Palm Springs, California, in the United States, and was heading north at a speed of 37 kilometers per hour.
The meteorological phenomenon maintains sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gusts of 110 kilometers per hour, according to the SMN.
The tropical storm will continue to cause “heavy” rains for the next few hours in Baja California, in addition to “very heavy” rains in northern Baja California Sur and northwestern Sonora, as well as “heavy” rains in Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa.

In addition, gusts of wind of 80 to 100 kilometers per hour and waves of 4 to 6 meters are expected on the west and northeast coasts of Baja California, and northwest of Sonora; and gusts of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour in Sonora.
Faced with this situation, the SMN, in coordination with the National Hurricane Center of Miami, United States, established the prevention zone for tropical storm effects from San José de las Palomas, Baja California, to the northern border with the United States, and from Isla San Luis, Baja California, to Puerto Libertad, Sonora.
The system is expected to continue degrading tonight, significantly reducing its effects in Mexico,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Hilary entered US territory this Sunday afternoon with sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour, for which the authorities have issued an alert for “catastrophic flooding due to heavy rains.
Hilary cashed in on Saturday her first, and so far only victim mortal in Mexico, because a man who was traveling in a vehicle with his family, in the municipality of Mulegé, Baja California Sur, died when he was dragged while trying to cross a stream, which grew due to the rains.
