Facebook continues to refine details of one of its main messaging apps. WhatsApp will allow us hide the visibility of our last connection to certain contacts. A feature that will improve privacy when using the platform.
More granular control of information
So far WhatsApp users can see the last connection time of a contact as a measure to facilitate discovering the best time to contact someone. This system, however, has certain implications for privacy, as one can draw conclusions from the hours of connection.
It has long been possible to deactivate this information. The options are to show it to “Everyone”, “My contacts” or “Nobody”, something that is about to change. As collected in WABetaInfo soon there will be the option of “My contacts except …”, which will allow the specification of certain contacts who will not have access to this information.
As up to now, this future option will cause that if we deactivate this information for a contact we will not be able to see the same of that person either. An adjustment that, however, will allow us a much more granular control of what information circulates through the platform about our use of it.
As on other occasions, we do not know when we will see this function officially reach the application. The good news is that the discovery occurred on an iPhone, which leads us to deduce that we will see this functionality first reach Apple platforms and surely later on Android as well.
