In Mexico, only 1 in 20 plastic surgeons are certified
For every certified plastic surgeon in Mexico there are up to 20 peoplesome doctors who they don’t have the specialtyothers not even that, that do surgeries or procedures aesthetic illegally For usurping functions by not having the specialty or certification, warns the former president of the Mexican Council of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Marcelo Castillerlo Manzano:
“For every plastic surgeon there are 15 or 20 people who do not have the necessary knowledge and are performing cosmetic surgery and this puts us in a big public health problem, because every day there are more complications from patients who come and go and They operate in these types of houses.”
They ask to be standardize the General Health Laws of the state and the national so that only specialists from recognized universities in the country can perform cosmetic surgeries, he explains:
“Only doctors who are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery endorsed by CONACEV can operate, perform plastic and reconstructive surgery, and this is what we want this law to be integrated in Jalisco, and in some states they already have it, Baja California , Querétaro, Colima, this one has already changed”.
A few weeks ago another person died when going to a clandestine clinicwhich was actually a suitable house as an aesthetic clinic, so he called on the population to go to certified plastic surgeons and to recognized hospitals to avoid losing their health and, in the worst case, their lives:
“That is why it is very important to the general public that when they go or visit a plastic surgeon they see perfectly well that first he is a doctor, second that he has his specialty degree issued by a recognized university in the country, but above all that he has the diploma of the certification by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery but apart from the fact that it is valid”.
He recalled that this certification has to be updated every five years.
