A recent study suggests that children living in a favorable emotional environment and a happy childhood will enjoy better physical and mental health in adulthood.
How to have a happy childhood?
According to experts, a good family financial situation, a stable emotional environment, the absence of stressful events and that parents are in good health are essential for a child to be emotionally stable and happy. In this case, the novelty is that these aspects also favor that, when they reach adulthood, children are healthier in every way.
In the study, conducted in Finland and published in Circulation, the researchers evaluated 1,089 participants ages 3 to 18 – who were rechecked 27 years later. To the scientists’ surprise, the results determined that both children and adolescents with a higher presence of favorable factors during childhood were 35% more likely to have good cardiovascular health in adulthood than those with fewer favorable factors.
In addition, these positive psychosocial habits are also associated with a 14% greater chance of having a normal body mass index, a 12% greater chance of not becoming a smoker, and an 11% higher probability of having, as an adult, an adequate blood sugar level. Surprising!
