Although there will not be a Hannibal very close, Bryan Fuller is ready to extend the Friday the 13th in a television series. The horror classic will be transformed into a 13 (hehe) episode show that is sure to be just as dark, gory, and as macabre in atmosphere as that ill-fated series about Dr. Lecter.
According to dead line producer Bryan Fuller is fully immersed in the project. Since 2013, he has been trying to overcome obstacles to the creation of a film. The biggest obstacle that stood in his way was a legal battle over copyright. One that was resolved last 2021.
The above opens the door not only for the television series, but for future film projects. While that finds its way to the big screen, Fuller is already developing the idea of a TV show that will work as a prequel to the original 1980 classic. The series will also happen under the banner of A24.
“I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of ‘Famous Monsters’ magazine when I was 10 years old and I’ve been thinking about this story ever since,” Fuller said. ”When it comes to horror, A24 raises the bar and pushes production to the max. I am excited to explore the Crystal Lake campgrounds. Susan Rover is simply the best at what she does. It is a pleasure and honor to be working with her again.”
in the original Friday the 13th Mrs. Voorhees kills a couple of counselors after their son Jason carelessly drowns in the lake at Camp Crystal Lake. Later she is murdered in the same place. What unleashes the fury of her son, who returns during a Friday the 13th to execute her revenge. Along the way, he ends the lives of a group of teenagers who intend to have fun during the reopening of said space.
The film was written by Victor Miller, who was advised legally by Marc Toberoff; while Rob Barsamian served as the producer. The trio will return, but this time as executive producers of the series.
“Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history. And we’ve been dying to revive this story with our upcoming drama series Crystal Lake,” said Susan Rovner, president of content for NBCUniversal. “We can’t wait to start working with Bryan Fuller. A talented and visionary creator with whom I have had the pleasure of being a long-time friend and collaborator, along with our incredible partners at A24, this updated version for Peacock will excite long-time fans of the franchise.”
At the moment no further details of the series are known. It was only reported that it will work as a prequel to the original tapes. Many assume it will be about the creation of Camp Crystal Lake and Jason’s backstory.
The release date is not yet confirmed. The only thing that is known is that the television program will be broadcast -in the United States- through the platform streaming peacock.
