One of the most loved games on PC and Valve is the classic Half-Life 2. The saga continues to have many followers around the world, who enjoyed Half-Life Alyx and still they dream of a Half-Life 3. Well, now it has been discovered that Valve prepare an update New for Half-Life 2 with Steam Deck in mind and its compatibility with modern computers.
As explained by youtuber Tyler McVicker, an expert at Valve, the company has released an update to Half-Life 2 in the beta build of the game, so still not available for the general public, although it is expected to arrive in the future. Despite that, we have already known what the changes are in this patch and, without a doubt, they attract attention.
They do it because it is a really significant update for a game that is almost 17 years old. The interesting thing is that the game will adapt to the times, expanding up to 110 the FOV limit (In first-person games, something important, since it is the breadth of view we have). In addition, it will add support for ultrawide monitors and the user interface will be improved.
Thinking about Steam Deck
It is also curious that the patch will fix numerous bugs that the game has been around for many, many years. But, without a doubt, one of the most noticeable changes is that the game will have support for the rendering API Vulkan, which works much better on Linux-based operating systems like SteamOS. It is something that was done months ago with Portal 2 and it seems designed so that Valve games go great on Steam Deck, which will use Proton, based on Linux.
Without a doubt, the compatibility of video games with the device is one of the big concerns, but that’s why Valve will launch a verification system that will tell us how well a game works on the portable Gaming PC, a task for which it is looking for workers. The Half-Life 2 update causes some stuttering in beta, so it’s not ready yet, but we don’t think it will take long to roll out.
