The official Twitter account of India-based cryptocurrency exchange CoinDCX has been hacked and used by attackers to post fake Ripple (XRP) promotions along with phishing links in an attempt to scam followers of the exchange.
In response to the attack, the official CoinDCX customer service has pointed out the problem and has warned its users not to click on any links or messages coming from the compromised account. According to the exchange, they are working to recover the account and will share the news with their followers very soon.
At the time of writing this article, Hackers have been retweeting Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s official posts to make their scam look legit. At the same time, scammers respond to cryptocurrency tweets with scam links.
Users who click on the links posted on the account are at risk of losing their assets to the hackers scam. If the problem is not resolved soon, the losses could be serious, as the official Twitter account currently has more than 230,000 followers..
Earlier this month, the Twitter account of one of the big four accounting firms, PwC Venezuela, was also compromised and flooded with bogus XRP token giveaways and filled with phishing links. of a Ripple scam event, using images of Garlinghouse as their thumbnails.
On the same day, an Elon Musk giveaway scam plagued an official YouTube account owned by the South Korean government. The account was compromised and renamed SpaceX Invest while posting fake videos of Musk talking about cryptocurrencies.
