This shipment is the second donation made to the country
(EFE) .- Guatemala received this Tuesday a second donation of 150,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines sent by Mexico to combat covid-19. Just as the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, had promised on June 24.
The delivery, as well as more than a month ago, took place on the main runway of the Guatemalan Air Force and during the landing of the drugs. The authorities carried out a formal act of delivery and reception of the vaccines.
Guatemala appreciated the donation
Guatemalan Vice Chancellor Eduardo Hernández thanked the Mexican people for the donation. As well as Ebrard and the president of the neighboring country, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The donation was packaged in Mexico
The Mexican official concluded that Guatemala is a “sister country, our neighbor, very dear to us.” That is why President López Obrador and Foreign Minister Ebrard have been concerned and taking care of the bilateral relationship to have this second donation of AstraZeneca vaccines.
The vaccine that arrived in Guatemala on Tuesday is packaged in Mexico and produced in Argentina, said the undersecretary.
WHO has also donated
So far, Guatemala has received more than 6.58 million doses. Mostly donated by the Governments of the United States, Mexico, India and Israel. While the Government has acquired drugs through the Covax mechanism, from the World Health Organization (WHO) and direct purchase from the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
Of the total number of vaccines administered, 38% were from Moderna, 36% from AstraZeneca and 26% from Sputnik V. On the other hand, 54% of those immunized are women and the rest, men, according to information from the pandemic situation board of the Ministry of Health.
So far, the Central American country has accumulated 373,047 confirmed cases of covid-19, of which 33,799 are active and 10,483 have died.
