Incredible, Guanajuato wins Guinness Record for the largest cup of tea in the world. Obtaining recognition was not an easy task, since it required the work of some 200 people and more than 9,000 liters of tea.
In addition, the project had to surpass Saudi Arabia, which held the record when it presented the world with a 6,087-liter cup of tea.
Guanajuato wins Guinness Record with an almost impossible mission
The event took place on April 22 at the Polifórum of the León Fair, in the presence of the Guinness Record viewer; two tea sommeliers; two engineers and two health specialists; who validated the entire process.
The cup, with a height of 3.28 meters and a diameter of 3.18 meters, was filled with 9,123 liters of water; then it was heated until reaching a temperature of 70 °C and a sack with a mixture of green tea with bougainvillea and mullein was added.
Next, the drink was left to rest for five minutes; the sack was removed to avoid affecting the taste of the drink; It was sweetened with Stevia and was given to the sommeliers to taste, who seem to have been delighted with the taste of the tea.
Finally, the community of the University of Guanajuato supported the distribution of the hot drink among the audience.
Teamwork, project success
It should be noted that this initiative was financed by the Irapuatense company Tonic Life, the Municipality of León and the State Government. In addition, some 200 people joined the cause, including 60 Food Engineering students from the Life Sciences Division of the University of Guanajuato coordinated by Dr. Ma. del Abraham Juárez, the project’s technical advisor.
With this, Guanajuato already accumulates three Guinness Records: the world’s largest jam jar, in Irapuato, as well as the world’s largest cup of coffee, in León.
Finally, on March 2, 2024, the state will seek a new record with the largest bottle of wine in the world. Let’s go Guanajuato!
