Candlemas Day arrives and it is the best excuse to sink your teeth into tamales. We know them from green, red, mole and sweet sauce, but there are many more! Have you attended a tamale fair in CDMX? Well, this year there is something to choose from, from vegans to the most exotic and in different parts of Mexico City.
This celebration is a good opportunity to try different things in terms of tamales, because this dish has many variations in its preparation. Here are some of the options to enjoy warm tamales!
Tamale and Chocolate Festival
Casa Ensenada in the Hipódromo Condesa neighborhood will host this festival organized by Adelitas Empresarias. Here there will be the classics with green, red, rajas and mole sauce, but also other proposals that include, for example, the cochinita pibil in its preparation. They will also have some sweet ones for those of us who are more gluttonous, including Gansito and blackberry with cheese, a combination that is so popular in desserts.
There will also be craft sales, with exhibitors from different states of Mexico. You will leave with tamales and jewelry, textiles and other objects of independent design. They also have a virtual mode to place orders and deliver them to your home, but if you can, take a walk!

Tamal Fair in Iztapalapa
The Macroplaza of the Iztapalapa mayor’s office will have this festival to entertain residents and visitors. Until Sunday, February 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., this event will be held with more than 100 varieties of tamales, you have to go very hungry or several times! Of course, you want to avoid garbage, so the organizers suggest bringing a plate and cutlery or a refractory to take the tamales home.

XXIX Tamal Fair
The National Museum of Popular Cultures in Coyoacán receives this already classic event within the framework of the celebrations for Candelaria Day to different teachers and masters of the tamale, from different regions of the city and the country, to share the classics, but also more exotic dishes. The gourmet touch is present at the CDMX tamale fair with preparations that include grasshoppers, chipilín, passion fruit, rabbit, duck, shrimp, among others.
The best accompaniment to the tamale will be present: the warm atole. There will also be a variety of this drink, in addition to the classic chocolate champurrado and rice pudding, there will be flavors such as pumpkin, strawberry, red fruits and other much more attractive ones.

Vegan Tamal Fair
The eighth edition of this festival, organized by Bazar Vegano y Artesanal, will be held at the Monument to the Revolution from January 2 to 5. From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this event will sell tamales, atoles, and other items for anyone who wants to come and try this variety of recipe.
Admission is free to visit the more than 50 exhibitors from the Cuauhtémoc, Xochimilco and Tláhuac mayors. You don’t need to be a vegan to go to this succulent event to try the delicacies that will be there, as well as discover the items for sale that promote this culture of animal care.

Tamale Fair in Los Pinos
The Los Pinos Cultural Complex will also have a tamale fair in Cencalli, the house of corn and food culture. From February 2 to 5, from 11:00 in the morning, various events will be held around Candelaria Day, such as the Seed Blessing Ceremony. There will be several activities for visitors of all ages, including a gastronomic show with different varieties of this dish.
In addition to the tamales from different states of the country, you can try those from Honduras and Panama, guest countries. There will also be a sale of corn products from the Solar Market that is in Cencalli every weekend.
