From now on, the life of Google developers for Apple platforms will be somewhat easier thanks to the changes that have been coming to iOS.
If you are users of Google apps on iOS you will know that the user experience is usually somewhat peculiar compared to other apps. Its interface tries to get closer to what already exists on Android than what we normally see in other apps in the App Store. And it is that, in the process of achieving a consistent experience across platforms, Google has to try a little more to make it seem that iOS is not separate from the rest.
Until now, this meant that Google had to dedicate additional resources to be able to create its iOS apps. Additional code that, as of now, looks like no longer necessary thanks to improvements implemented in the iOS development tools. This is indicated in Twitter the chief engineer of the Google Design group dedicated to Apple platforms, Jeff Verkoeyen.
This year my team shifted the open source Material components libraries for iOS into maintenance mode. Why?

In short, the Android user experience is designed based on Material Design and Material You (in the most recent version of the system), which offer all the elements that allow us to access the system’s functionalities. The interactions these allowed were not fully covered by the iOS development tools, so they had to create them from scratch to be able to offer the same functionalities.
However, thanks to the improvements that have been implemented in the iOS SDK, in Google they no longer need to create those additional components. So they can provide an improved user experience, and use the time they save to make you feel even better on Apple platforms. Something that, without a doubt, those who are used to using any of their apps will appreciate.
