After adding a troubleshooting menu last month, Google Meet now provides a “green room” to quickly preview how you will look to other attendees before joining the meeting.
This new feature is available on the desktop version of Google Meet and also allows you to check the status of devices and the network.
Google Meet adds video preview and device status
Before joining a meeting, a new “Check Audio and Video” button now appears below the feed. The option displays the camera view and lists your devices just below with the option to choose between different microphones, speakers and cameras.
This feature allows you to preview the best configuration and detect if a microphone, headphone connection or speakers are muted or missing, as well as any other audio problems, such as poor sound quality, volume too loud or microphone that amplifies background noise. If you have any problems, Google Meet will provide tips and procedures to solve them.
Google Meet video preview is already available for the following accounts: Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise customers for Education and Nonprofit.
