Google Mapsthe most used navigation app in the world, has launched a new tool that allows the user to choose the type of car you usewhether gasoline, electric or hybrid, with the aim of indicating the most convenient route to the pilot and for the vehicle to save fuel.
This function offers the most efficient route in terms of fuel consumption if the type of engine of the car is specified, a new initiative of the company based in Mountain View to promote the baptized ecological routes.
According to a report published on the website of computer todaythese eco-friendly routes were launched on Google Maps earlier this year in the United States, Canada and Germany, with the aim of highlighting directions that require less fuel.
The report adds that from this month it will reach more than 40 countries in Europe.
What are ecological routes?
The ecological routes in the application are longer journeys, but they save fuel by taking highway areas, with little incline, among other factors that make the engines consume less gasoline.
In the app, they appear with the symbol of a leaf and the text “More fuel efficient”. Google Maps gives preference to the ecological route when arrival times are similar.
This feature was released for users to save money on gasoline and reduce carbon emissions. Since its launch in North America, it is estimated that it has already helped eliminate more than half a million metric tons of emissions, which is equivalent to taking 100,000 cars off the road.
The tool is activated by going to Route Options > Engine Type and choosing between LNG, Gasoline, Diesel, Hybrid or Electric Vehicle (EV). By choosing the type of motor, you can start taking more efficient routes.
