Chrome, Google’s browser, will have a novelty available related to its design that is framed within the style Windows 11 operating system, which will arrive on October 5 for all users.
As Reddit user Leopeva64-2 has detected, there is a new Chromium Gerrit patch that indicates that they are introducing some configuration changes to enable menus with rounded corners for Chrome on Windows 11.
Google Chrome is regularly updated with new features and user interface changes as it every four weeks a new version arrives on the stable channel.
While the current browser design language emphasizes sharp edges and corners for UI elements (as can be seen in the following image featured by Neowin), it appears that work is in progress to allow rounded corners in menus to align with the design language Windows 11.
A change that started in Windows
Microsoft’s operating system has changed the square design for the rounded one and has already spoken that “in the case of rounded corners, we have optimized the rendering performanceso you shouldn’t notice any difference compared to square corners. “
Anyway, it remains to be seen what will happen to Chrome. The owner of the change, Allan Bauer, who is a software engineer at Chrome, has stated that the code for this has already been written and has been receiving feedback. Because of this, it has not yet been merged with the Windows 11 menu. This makes sense, since the operating system is not yet generally available.
However, based on the code comments that have been read, menu redesign will be available in all versions of Windows. In the image above you can see a snippet of the code in question.
Anyway, according to Bauer, this will not be the end result and it seems that there are still changes that Google wants to carry out in its browser. In the words of the engineer: “You have to admit that this is not the prettiest solution to implement style menus for Windows 11, but we’re short on time. I’d like to change the menu code at some point to do a full setup without all the added conditional checks. “
Therefore, it is not clear when the final implementation of the rounded corner menus will be ready for use in Windows. It would first have to pass the checks to get to Chrome Stable. Microsoft Edge in Windows 11 already has rounded corners with acrylic effects.
