For almost 54 years, The Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) has been in charge of transporting millions of capital residents through its 12 lines of operation. Despite the fact that access has risen in price over time, the ticket that guaranteed entry was the same… Until now.
Several years ago and with the arrival of the Metrobús, the Integrated Mobility (MI) card was created, which little by little was modified to such a degree that it now works to travel on Cablebús, Ecobici, RTP, Trolebús and Metro.
Today it is already possible to pay for such trips not only with this card, but also with the debit card or even with smart watches. In this sense, Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of CDMX, has announced that Metro tickets will disappear from 2024 due to new forms of payment.

To travel in any of its 195 stations, users will have to use their MI card at the turnstiles. It should be noted that at the moment, only Line 12 allows payment by debit card, but it is expected that the others will also be able to accept it by the end of the year.
The Integrated Mobility card costs 16 pesos and can be purchased at different Metrobús, Cablebús and Metro stations. To add balance, you can use the stations of these transport systems.
When will the first section of Line 1 of the Metro operate again?
On September 4, 1969, Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) toopened its doors becoming the first in the network and consequently, the oldest in the number 1 medium to transport the capital.
After 53 years of operating from the station pantitlan until Observatory in a stretch of almost 17 kilometers, the CDMX authorities announced in 2022 that a total remodeling would be carried out to guarantee the safety and comfort of travelers.
In this sense, this process was divided into two stages. The first began last July 9, where the segment of stations that covers from Pantitlán to Salto del Agua was closed. After nine months without operation, when will this section be ready and open to the public?
The Government of the CDMX has cleared up the doubts of millions of residents of the capital and users of this means of transport. At a press conference, Guillermo Calderón, general director of the STC Metro, stated that he expects the Line 1 stations that are currently closed to reopen in May.
We estimate that by the end of May we will be starting the commercial operation with our users”, said the manager.
He also asserted that, at the moment, this segment of the ‘pink’ Line is already in the testing phase. It should be remembered that once this section opens, the other (which runs from Balderas to Observatorio) will close.
