The social network Taringa! has announced its closure after 20 yearsa decision that those responsible have adopted due to the trends that have moved this type of platforms in recent years, and that will become effective on March 24.
Taringa! It is one of the largest online communities in the Spanish language, focused on content creation. In it its users, known as 'taringueros', they have shared personal stories, memes, reviews, news and tutorials, under what those responsible have called “collective intelligence.”
In recent years it has opted for a collaborative system that encouraged interaction and which has led it to reach 30 million users. -as of September 2019- in markets such as Latin America, the United States and Spain, among other parts of the world.

It was born in Argentina in June 2004 by Fernando Sanz, who two years later sold it to businessmen Alberto Nakayama, Matías Botbol and Hernán Botbol. Since 2019 it has been owned by IOV Labs, a blockchain company that acquired it with the aim of starting a new stage in which it would advance to web3, promoting monetization with cryptocurrencies.
This social network will close on March 24, as they have communicated in a publication on their website. “20 years of history is not an achievement that any site, platform or community can boast of,” they have expressed.
Its closure is mainly due to the “change in trends in recent years” that social networks have experienced.as well as “the market conditions and competitiveness” of these platforms, which have “frustrated” a project that “was looking for what other platforms could not achieve, a space of freedom where content can be monetized.”
Although they have not shared all the details of the process they will follow, they have confirmed that the closure affects both the main website, taringa.net, and the mobile application.
