The “Buen Fin”, a discount program in Mexico similar to “Black Friday”, will return in 2023 to celebrate the thirteenth edition of the largest year-end promotions and discounts in the country, with the expectation of the public and private sectors of a 5% increase in sales.
The program reported sales of 134,400 million pesos (7,896 million dollars) in 2022, so this year they could be above 141,000 million pesos (8,284 million pesos), anticipated Luis Abel Romero, Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy, at a press conference.
“The goal is always to grow one weight more than last year. We believe that 5% is a reasonable goal, we know that there are inflationary problems and prices are adjusted to the market”, agreed Vicente Yáñez, president of the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (Antad).
The 2023 edition will take place from November 17 to 20with favorable prospects for inflation, which has been falling for six months, so they trusted that competition is what defines prices, which also see improvements given the appreciation of the peso against the dollar in imported merchandise.
In the economic environment, Francisco Lelo de Larrea, deputy director of Economic Research at the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (Ceesp), pointed out that the country is performing “relatively better.”
“Inflation is worrying, but fortunately the latest data confirms that there is already a turning point,” he added.
When presenting the date of this edition of the “Good End“, the Ministry of Economy and representatives of the private sector opened the registry to companies who want to participate in this campaign.
From the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), Omar Kuri, recalled that last year the registration of 1,700 Mexican companies was reached.
Likewise, René Guzmán, from the Tax Administration Service (SAT), confirmed that the bag of 500 million pesos will be repeated (29 million dollars) for raffles between businesses and people who purchase products this season with bank cards, with a minimum purchase of 250 pesos (about 15 dollars).
For his part, Jorge Alberto Gaitán, from the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), anticipated that this agency will participate as every year to monitor that promotions and discounts are met, as well as to help Mexican consumers find the best prices.
In 2022, he recalled160 modules were installed and 1,100 elements were deployed of Profeco throughout the country.
