One of the key films in the filmography of Pedro Almodóvar is about to become a series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV + is developing a television adaptation of ‘Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown’.
Women on a Verge
Gina Rodriguez (‘Jane The Virgin’) would star in the series as Pepa, the character originally played by carmen maura. Recall that the film (released in 1988) revolved around the misadventures of a dubbing actress who breaks up with her partner.
the writers Noelle Valdivia (‘Mozart in the Jungle’) will be in charge of writing the script and acting as showrunner of a bilingual adaptation (English and Spanish). The project, which is still in its infancy, has Almodóvar as producers, through El Deseo and Eugenio Derbez (which we have recently seen in ‘Acapulco’, also on Apple TV +).
Being in early stages of development It will still take time to know more details of this series. If it were to take place, it would be Almodóvar’s first foray into television fiction. The director is also preparing his first English-language film with ‘A Manual for Cleaning Women’.
