The world of Ghostrunner, the first-person cyberpunk from One More Level, 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks returns with a DLC focused on Hel, one of the villains from the original game.
Ghostrunner Project_Hel DLC is an expansion available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5.
The other side of the coin
In this DLC titled Project_Hel We take the role of a murderous android that becomes one of the enemies of Jack the Ghostrunner from the original game. The action takes place some time before Jack wakes up and it is our mission to stop the rebels of the Dharma Tower to maintain the order imposed by Mara. Of course, as we become more aware, we feel more and more free to follow our main objective or not.
Although the story is short and only adds a bit of spice to the original plot, it is interesting to see more of the fascinating world of ghostrunner. Also that feeling of playing alongside certain events reminded me a little of the Half Life: Blue Shift; one of the expansions of the game that allowed us to visit other places with small coincidences that were nods to those who had played the original.

New enemies to mow down and shortcuts to access
Ghostrunner Project_Hel DLC he had to introduce some changes but not so many that the players felt too far from the base. Although since it is a game of trial and error; you may have spent 20 hours playing the original and its mechanics have been glued to your brain. There’s something you’re going to have to forget right away.
It is that Jack had a hook to propel himself and access the areas, solve puzzles and fight. Well, Hel he doesn’t need it. His jump is extremely crazy and it takes a bit to hit some of the areas. What is much simpler is the fusion between a dash in the air and an indication of where we are going to fall. These tools make Hel much more versatile when it comes to moving around the scenarios and even accessing areas that perhaps not even the developers had thought of from the beginning.
Hel also has an enemy indicator (so we don’t miss any) and a lightning sword-type secondary attack that is very effective; although it only loads in certain areas of the game or once we kill many enemies.
Perhaps the main difference between the two characters is that Jack was much more strategic and the options were more limited. With Hel I felt like he was superior to my enemies and could finish them off or dodge them like a ninja on steroids.
The game has seven levels, the first ones are always to get used to and the rest begin to put us on the ropes. There are also new enemies, such as snipers, with electric or flying clubs; although they all function similarly to the original title.
The final two bosses add a bit to the challenge and are more mobile than some we’ve faced before. Finally, we have updates that add improvements to our attacks or features like seeing enemies reflected (which I think is more for an Easy mode). In addition to that there are secrets with swords and other collectibles.
Fluidity and synchrony win the race
Visually, the original game already fulfilled in showing us a cyberpunk world with a slightly unlikely but functional construction to our jumps and pirouettes. On Project_Hel The essence remains unchanged, although it is noted that our protagonist is lighter, freer with a sensitive parkour although without human limits.
They don’t add as many songs and if they can’t get past a part they’re going to listen to it over and over again. But there is always the option to lower or remove the music.
