In addition, it gives it softness, shine and volume. It also allows more and more postponement of hair washing. Find out in this article!
There are people who have delicate hair, with dandruff, seborrhea or split ends. The worst thing is that many times they do not find shampoos that are not aggressive with their scalp and respect their natural pH.
There are also those who only prefer natural remedies to take care of their body. For all of them, ghassoul may be the solution.
Warning: remember that if you have problems with your skin or scalp, you should not apply any product without first consulting your doctor. The same goes for those who have adverse reactions when applying any substance.
What is ghassoul?
Ghassoul or rhassoul is a clay from Morocco that has been used since ancient times in that country. It stands out for its numerous properties for skin and hair.
This natural product is believed to be rich in minerals such as silicon, magnesium, iron, calcium, or potassium. Below, we detail some of its possible effects. We should note that no scientific studies were found to support the existence or efficacy of the properties attributed to it. The information below is based on traditional beliefs.
Advantages of ghassoul
- It has a high power to absorb grease and dirt that, however, does not alter the natural pH of the scalp and hair.
- It does not contain some harmful substances from conventional shampoos, such as surfactants, chemical additives, heavy metals, parabens, etc.
- Unlike some of the so-called natural shampoos, ghassoul does respect and regulate the natural sebum of the hair, avoiding grease and dryness.
- Brings shine, softness and volume to hair.
- Eliminate dandruff gradually.
- Prevents dry hair and split ends.
- No need to use conditioner or mask, as the ghassoul itself leaves hair soft and hydrated.
- Over time, it reduces the need to wash your hair often. It helps keep it clean, more and more, by naturally regulating the amount of sebum.
- It can be used to exfoliate the body, and even to prepare face masks.
How is it used?
Ghassoul is usually obtained in the form of powder or pieces of clay. These are mixed with a little hot water, using a wooden spoon (never metal) to dissolve it.
Stir until you get a creamy paste that contains enough water, but is not too liquid. It must have a consistency similar to that of a cream or mask so that it can be applied comfortably. Then you have to carry out the following steps:
- Wait a few minutes until it is warm.
- Moisten the hair and apply the paste in the same way as you would with the shampoo, but massage gently. You should not expect foam to come out. Cleaning will be just as effective, even without the need for lathering.
- Leave to act for two minutes and rinse with plenty of water.
For dry hair
If the hair is very dry or has brittle or split ends, a few drops of coconut oil should be applied after washing. This is done on hair that is still wet, as it is the most natural way to nourish it.
For a scented shampoo
Many people like that shampoo also flavor their hair. However, ghassoul does not contain any odor, naturally.
What you can do is add aroma by adding a few drops of essential oils, which will also provide other properties. The most used are the following:
- Lemon: to clean excess fat.
- Orange or tangerine: to give a delicious aroma.
- Mint: to provide freshness.
- Rosemary: to combat hair loss.
- Lavender: to relax the scalp and sore roots.
Once the ghassoul mixture is prepared, add three drops of the essential oil. This must be of good quality so that the result is very pleasant.
Where do you get it?
Ghassoul is not yet a well-known product in many countries. However, it can be obtained in Moroccan product stores, herbalists, or online.
Today you can also find shampoos or other beauty products that include ghassoul among its ingredients. Discover them!
Do not forget…
There are no studies that endorse the properties attributed to the ghassoul. Still, it is a product that is used in many cosmetic treatments. In any case, if you apply it and you have any adverse reaction, consult your doctor.
