The recent and true story of the children lost in the Amazon jungle will arrive at the film scene at the hands of the director Gaz Alazraki. In this case, not through a documentary, but a scripted film, written by the same Mexican filmmaker, previously responsible for the remake of The father of the bride (2022) and the blockbuster We the noble (2013).
On May 1, 2023, a small plane carrying three adults and four minors crashed in the Colombian Amazon jungle. Two weeks later, the corpses of the adults were found; however, of the children and the baby – 13, 9, 4 and 1 years old – there was no trace. It was not until June 9 of this year that the discovery of the four missing persons was reported, who managed to survive 40 days in the jungle. According to a spokesperson for the Colombian military special forces (via CNN), their survival was possible thanks to the knowledge and connection with the jungle environment that the infants inherited from their indigenous roots.
The future film, inspired by that real event, will be produced by Exile Content Studio. In addition, it will be spoken in both Spanish and English, according to an exclusive from Deadline.
“I am excited to tell the story of how these children were able to survive thanks to their unique relationship with nature, instilled from birth,” Alazraki said. “As parents, I’m sure we will all marvel at the resilience, ability, and intelligence of children.”
And I add:
“This project has completely captured my imagination and I hope it captivates everyone else in the same way.”

Gaz Alazraki will write the script for the feature film —described as a survival thriller— based on a forthcoming book that breaks down the unusual case of those children lost in the Amazon jungle. This will be published by Random House and presumes the authorship of the award-winning Colombian journalist Daniel Coronell.
“I am excited to embark on this collaborative journey with Gaz and Exile; a team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of storytelling,” Coronell said in a statement. “Together we will delve into the depths of this captivating story to shed light on the hardships these children endured and their determination to survive. We look forward to captivating audiences around the world with his remarkable story.”
The production house Exile Content Studio recently conceived the Mexican series vgly with Benny Emmanuel, Sasha González and Juan Daniel García Treviño in the cast. Its first season is available in the HBO Max catalog.
