Wonder Woman 1984 may have been seen on HBO Max rather than on the big screen, but the film arrives with all the makings of a year-end blockbuster. The run-up to the sequel, which explores the life of Princess Diana of Themyscira in Regan’s time, began earlier this month with a worldwide list of premieres and a full-scale press tour. Its protagonist, Gal Gadot, now offers epic looks in every appearance.
This was proven at today’s virtual premiere, where actress Gal Gadot streamed live alongside a statement look from Valentino’s spring/summer 2021 runway. The draped and crimson silk tulle dress was the grand finale to Pierpaolo Piccioli’s September show. When model Denise Ascuet wore a version with a see-through bodice on the runway, the dress encapsulated the unbridled romanticism that inspired the collection.
By comparison, Gal Gadot’s version of the dress was modest, but not without drama. Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, the dress was a real addition to the star’s promo tour wardrobe. Paired with diamonds from Tiffany and Co., slicked-back hair from Mark Townsend, and bright red lips, created by makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani, the look was elegant from head to toe. More than making the already glamorous Gal Gadot look in her element, the Valentino piecehe aligned himself with the spirit of his famous character. If an Amazonian queen had to choose something to wear from the collections, it would probably be one of Piccioli’s refined creations. Add in a bow of truth and a pair of bulletproof bracelets, and the dress could easily slip from Gadot’s wardrobe to Diana’s.
