In Mad Max: Fury in the path (2015) we met a fearless combatant destined to become the public's great favorite and, since then, she has flirted with the idea of giving her her own spin-off. The origin story of the character then played by Charlize Theron is hinted at, but never fully explored. Therefore, director George Miller has decided to explore it in the prequel Furiosa: From the Mad Max saga. Here we tell you everything you need to know:
What is it about Furious?
Under the direction of George Millerthis project is the fifth title within the post-apocalyptic world that began in 1979 with Mad Max, the road warrior. The rebirth of the franchise came with force in 2016 with Mad Max: Fury Roadwhich not only earned 10 Oscar nominations, but also won six of those prestigious awards.
Warner Bros. Pictures provides the following synopsis of Furious, which passes 15 years before Fury road:
“As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by Warlord Dementus. Sailing through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she gathers the means to find her way home.”
Production and cast team
George Miller surrounded himself behind the camera with the same team that helped him create Mad Max: Fury Road: his co-writer Nico Lathouris; stunt coordinator, Guy Norris; composer Tom Holkenborg; production designer Colin Gibson; costume designer Jenny Beavan; makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt; visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson and editor Margaret Sixel. Joining the creative team was director of photography Simon Duggan (The Great Gatsby).
Being a prequel, Charlize Theron will not return to play our heroine. Although the director flirted with the possibility of using digital rejuvenation technology, he ultimately opted for a younger actress. The chosen one was Anya Taylor-Joyknown for the miniseries Queen's Gambit and movies like The witch (2015), The mystery of Soho (2021), The man of the north (2022) or The menu (2002).
“I fell in love with Furiosa, the way Charlize portrayed her [en Mad Max: Furia en el camino]”Taylor-Joy stated in October 2020 (via). “She did such an amazing job and it was so beautiful that I can't even think about trying to put on [en su lugar]. It has to be something different because it simply [reemplazarla] it is impossible”.
Accompanying her we will have Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder) as Dementus, and Tom Burke (The Musketeers) and Alyla Browne (The Lost Flowers by Alice Hart). Of Mad Max: Fury Road they repeat their roles Nathan Jones like Rictus Erectus and Angus Sampson like The Organic Mechanic.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures hosted this production by Miller and his partner Doug Mitchell, under their company Kennedy Miller Mitchell.
