When we see an elderly married couple together, it makes us believe that love does exist, like the story of Vince and Eileen Triggs, who were married for 71 years, until the man’s death. However, before he died, Vince asked his wife that his last wish was that she marry her best friend. Although at first Eileen did not like the idea of her very much, after a while, she ended up fulfilling the last wish of her late husband.
Vince Triggs was a great man who, through his work, good deeds, community events, and charity organizing, changed “thousands of lives.” In his marriage to his wife Eileen he had four children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mike Triggs, one of his sons, wrote on his Facebook profile the story of how his mother and Ron Felton, his father’s best friend, got married and fulfilled the last wish of his father, Vince.
In his post, Mike wrote that before he died, his father expressed that he did not want his wife to be sad about his departure for a long time and wanted her to remarry with someone who would care for her and love her as much as he did. For Vince, the right man to fulfill his wish could only be Ron, his best friend.
Vince met Ron in 2015 and realizing that their businesses had a lot in common, they became very close and ended up being best friends. In addition, they were both Shriners (an international organization) and Masons, another thing in common that united them. Melba, Ron’s wife, was also friends with Eileen, until she died in 2019.
Of course, Mom was shocked and said that was crazy talk since they had been together for 71 years and she had never wanted any other man.
Eileen told Ron about her late husband’s last wish at his funeral, but it didn’t go beyond a simple comment. In the weeks following the man’s death, Ron helped the widow with a few things around her house, including cleaning out the closet.
While he was getting some things out, he found some of Vince’s boots, tried them on and they fit perfectly, but not only did he measure the shoes, but also Vince’s engagement ring that she planned to sell. Just like the Cinderella story!
After a while, the man proposed to Eileen that they take a trip to Arizona for several months, but she replied that she had not considered the option of traveling with someone other than her husband, so Ron asked if he If it were her husband, she would be encouraged to go with him and she answered yes.
Obviously, this surprised us all. The timing seemed a little early, but after thinking about it, Mom is 90 and Ron is 87. Neither of them are getting any younger and it makes sense that they can be happy, go places and do things as a couple while at good health.
After Ron’s proposal, they got married to start a new stage together. Although it was news that surprised everyone, both are sure that it is a decision that makes their deceased spouses happy, since they would like to see them happy and continue with their lives. After all, Vince’s wish was fulfilled, to see his beloved wife “happy”.
