Way back in 2020, some ex-Blizzard developers banded together to form “Frost Giant Studios” in order to create the next great real-time strategy game for PC. Now, the studio is gearing up to reveal its first big title at Summer Game Fest this June 9.
Frost Giant Studios was founded by Tim Morten, former Production Manager for StarCraft 2 and Command & Conquer: Generals 2, along with Tim Campbell, former Lead Campaign Designer for Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and former Game Director for Wasteland 3. RTS giants were joined by other veteran developers with roots in both Blizzard and other RTS games.
Frost Giant is planning its big debut at Summer Game Fest, which will be held this Thursday, June 9. Additionally, he plans to reveal more details about his new title a few days later at the PC Gaming Show, planned for June 12.
We recently had the opportunity to witness, behind closed doors, a presentation event that Frost Giant arranged for various commentators from eSportsstreamers, and gaming journalists, where we got a sneak peek of what’s to come later.
The game itself has a modern and original look, while clearly drawing inspiration from its real-time strategy roots. From what has been shown, the idea is to reduce the introductory difficulty to the games RTSwhile expanding on its legacy in eSports, and improving on the game modes we’ve seen in classics like StarCraft/BroodWar and Warcraft, and in the current StarCraft 2. You could almost say that this game will be the spiritual successor to StarCraft 2.
Fans of Blizzard’s RTS games are eager to see what Frost Giant Studios has created, and with good reason. Many of the minds behind the new studio are responsible for some of the best aspects of Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2. With their résumés, it’s easy to trust Frost Giant Studios when it says it plans to create the next great real-time strategy game.
