- The Bachelor of Medicine is the most extensive that exists in Mexico because it lasts between 6 and 7 years.
- Currently only 40% of ENARM applicants obtain a place to become specialists.
- A doctor shared a couple of photos that show his evolution as a first-semester student at the University of Guadalajara and a last-year resident of Internal Medicine.
Having the possibility of caring for people’s health is a privilege that implies great preparation. The road to being a doctor is much longer than any other profession and only the most persevering make it to the end. PBut perhaps the most important thing is that it is a guild that will never disappear. Technology helps to complement the work of doctors but can never replace them.
Everything that must be overcome to be a professional doctor
For its part, in countries like Mexico it is not enough to have the desire. The first complication begins at the moment of entering the university. Within the public sector, places are limited and for this reason there are entrance exams. Sometimes they are accused of trumping the desire for professional improvement but they are also a test to identify the most capable people.
In parallel there is also private education. In this case, the biggest limitation is that tuition fees are not cheap in most of the options. For the same reason, many young people do not have the possibility of accessing this type of university.
Now, once inside the Bachelor of Medicine you should be aware that too much study is required. The degree lasts between six and seven years, of which one is boarding school and the other is social service. The objective is to put into practice everything learned in the classroom. During this journey there are some who drop out of school because they can’t stand all the demands.
Concluding the basic training does not mean that it is the end of the road because in reality the preparation never ends. Continuing medical education is an obligation due to all the innovations that appear on a daily basis.
In the same way, if a doctor wants to become a specialist, he must face another test and that is the National Exam for Applicants for Medical Residencies (ENARM). The drawback is that of all those interested only 40 percent get a place.
But even those who approve of the ENARM must remember that in reality The most complicated part begins with the guards during the residency. For this reason, during the first months of this new stage, there are many young people who resign because they cannot bear the exploitation of which they are subjected.
Another point to consider is that not all specialties are the same or have the same duration. The shortest are two years but there are also others that require four. And that’s not all because there are also subspecialties that focus on an even more specific area and extend the training even longer.
The physical transformation of a doctor during his training
As part of this evolution the Dr. Mauricio Ambriz He shared a publication through his social networks that immediately went viral. It consists of a couple of photographs that not only show the passage of time but also all the effort she has had to make.
