VELUX, a leading company in roof windows, recently presented its guide “Re-imagine your office”, aimed at informing its customers about the key steps and aspects to take into account to face a reform or renovation in their homes of spaces under cover inclined intended to work remotely. The before and after of a home office that they have chosen to illustrate the presentation has seemed really inspiring.
The guide answers questions such as:
- What kind of illumination needed? Direct natural light for manual or indirect precision activities with a desk placed perpendicular to the windows to work with a screen.
- How much light do I need? It’s recommended that windows occupy at least 15% of the square meters of the room.
- How long does the process take? installation? One day in most cases.
- What budget will the project have? From 750 euros for window replacement or expansion of the hole to install a new model or from 1,500 euros including opening a new hole and installation.
- What effects on wellness and productivity generates access to natural light and ventilation?… In addition, the guide includes a proposal for accessories for light control such as the latest designs for curtains and awnings, or solutions for smart windows.

The months of confinement and the longer time we have spent at home has caused the value of live in a healthy home, and natural light plays a fundamental role in them, which is why we now value being able to improve and take advantage of a space like the one in the image above these lines much more. So much so, that in just one year, twice as many Spaniards think that their home is “too dark” according to Eurostat: going from 5.6% who made this statement in 2019 to 10.6% who said so in end of 2020.
