Who was Frida Kahlo?
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderón was born on July 6, 1907 in Mexico City, in the famous blue house located in Coyoacán, which belonged to her parents Guillermo Kahlo and Matilde Calderón. She had Hungarian-German roots on her father’s side and Oaxacan roots on her mother’s side.
He had three sisters, Matilde, Adriana and Cristina.
Throughout his life he went through several health problems. He had polio at the age of 6, the consequence of which was to leave one leg longer than the other. In 1925, when he was 18 years old, he had an accident aboard a bus that was hit by a tram, causing various fractures and spinal injuries that caused immobility at different times in his life. It was after that traumatic experience of hers that she began to paint, still bedridden, and it definitely influenced the rest of her work.
In 1929 she married the painter and muralist Diego Rivera, whose relationship was turbulent. It is said that Rivera was unfaithful to Frida several times, even with one of her sisters. In 1930, Frida became pregnant, but she miscarried. She in her life tried to get pregnant two other times, but with unsuccessful results. These traumatic experiences were also reflected in her work.
Kahlo was affiliated with the Mexican Communist Partymarried to the painter and hosted the Soviet revolutionary Leon Trotsky in his house in Coyoacán, during his Mexican exile.

Due to health complications, Frida was admitted to the English Hospital in 1950 until 1951. In 1953 her right leg was amputated. On July 13, 1954, Frida Kahlo died of pulmonary thromboembolism in the Casa Azul, the same place where she was born. Her coffin was covered with a flag of the Mexican Communist Party.
